Waveney Enterprises - Activities
In our workshop we offer a wide range of activities which aim to empower our
service users to reach their potential, nurture their aspirations, draw out their
talents, and through this, develop self esteem, independence and a sense of achievement.
All of our activities aim towards creating an end product
which is then sold in
our shop.
Shop work - with support from staff, the service users run the day to day business
of the shop. This includes serving customers, interacting with the public, taking
orders, cash handling, stock taking and pricing new ranges, shop window design and
general shop maintenance.
Needlework - service users are supported in creating patchwork, embroidery, appliqué,
hand sewing and machine sewing.
Knitting and crochet - hand, machine and loom knitting.
Rug making- in our workshop
we create wool rugs and rag rugs. Service users take part in every aspect of creating
the rugs, from cutting the rags/wool to the final finishing touches.
Woodwork -
activities in our woodwork department include fretsawing, hand sawing and other
woodwork skills, to create products such as bird boxes, name jigsaws, room signs
and toy boxes.
Arts - activities in our art department include paper mache, printing,
card making, painting, drawing, photography and batik.
Gardening - service uses
are supported to maintain the garden, work in the greenhouse and to grow plants
and vegetables.
Office duties - skills such as numeracy and literacy, photocopying
and finances are developed, as well as typing and computer skills.
Life skills -
service users are supported by staff to run their own canteen facility, which includes
shopping for supplies, making drinks and serving refreshments, as well as developing
domestic, literacy and numeracy skills and health and safety awareness.
External
activities - we offer external activities where possible, which have proven to be
very successful amongst our service users. These activities have included outings
and day trips, healthy eating groups, drama, dance and music classes, work experience,
literacy and numeracy classes and our highly anticipated annual Christmas dinner
dance.
